Examining the Evidence

This morning I received some copies of the book Origins: Examining the Evidence and also some copies of a DVD entitled Set in Stone: Evidence for Earth’s Catastrophic Past.

Origins: Examining the Evidence

This is a large (A4 size) paperback, beautifully produced, written by three scientists.

Who are the authors?

  • Dr Geoff Barnard PhD, MA – Senior Research Biochemist, Israel
  • Professor Andy McIntosh DSc, FIMA, C.Math, FEI, C.Eng, FInstP, MIGEM, FRAeS – Emeritus Professor of Thermodyamics and Combustion Theory, University of Leeds
  • Dr Steve Taylor B.Sc, ACGI, MEng, PhD, CEng, FIEE, FInstP – Reader, University of Liverpool

The book states that, “Each of the authors writes in a private capacity and the views expressed are not necessarily those of the institutions where they are employed.”  One has to be so careful these days.

According to the blurb on the back of the book,

The objective of this publication is to advocate a critical approach to evolutionary theory by considering the scientific evidence challenging the widely accepted paradigm.  Such exposure can and should result in an academic openness of mind producing better scientists and better science.  This book highlights that there are limits to the scientific method, leading to a more modest assessment of what we can and cannot know.

It is really a textbook and “is intended for high school students and undergraduates who have an on-going interest and some background in biology.”

Published by Truth in Science and thoroughly recommended.  Go on, examine the evidence!

Set in Stone: Evidence for Earth’s Catastrophic Past

This new 58 minute DVD “takes the viewer on a visual odyssey of discovery shot in high definition on location around Britain. It takes us to spectacular scenery, awe inspiring landscapes and beautiful coastlines. It presents evidence for Earth’s catastrophic past to enable the viewer to ask important questions.”

“The DVD comes with a fully referenced transcript with over 150 citations from the scientific literature.”

Produced by Truth in Science, the contributors are:

  • Andrew Snelling
  • John Whitmore
  • Paul Garner

Needless to say, they are all scientists.

Andrew Snelling earned his PhD in geology at the University of Sydney for his work on the Koongara uranium deposit of Australia’s Northern Territory.  He worked for many years as a field, mine and research geologist in the exploration and mining industries.

John Whitmore gained his PhD at Loma Linda University for his work on the taphonomy of fossil fishes in the Green River Formation of Wyoming.  He currently serves as professor of geology at Cedarville University in Ohio.

Paul Garner has a BSc in Environmental Sciences and is a Fellow of the Geological Society of London.  He is currently part of an international research team investigating the origin of the Coconino Sandstone of central and northern Arizona.

Have a look at the evidence.  The photography is stunning and the arguments are strong.  And the good thing about this video, unlike many other “creationist” videos, is that there is no Arminian presentation of the gospel.  In fact, there is no presentation of the gospel at all.  It is just SCIENCE.

O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called: Which some professing have erred concerning the faith.  Grace be with thee.  Amen.
